This course is sculpted for the engineer, technologist and technician that wants to do strain gauge measurements and do some calculations based on such measurements as well as for the construction of strain gauge based transducers, ie. loadells, pressure transducers etc.
Why should someone attend?
First of all to obtain the necessary skills needed to make meaningful strain gauge measurements. This is becoming more and more necessary for companies developing products for the European market, especially to obtain CE certification. Furthermore strain gauges are such versatile sensors that can be adapted to measure indirectly various other parameters such as, force, pressure, displacement etc. Different types of signal conditioning instrumentation and data acquisition equipment will be treated and demonstrated.
This course also prepares the attendee for the Level 1 and Level 2 BSSM examinations that is currently the standard accepted in the European Union for strain gauge applications and experimental stress analysis.

Lecturers
Dr. Terry Terblanche (External Lecturer)
With some 40 years’ experience in strain gauge and measurement techniques. Has done strain gauge measurements on ships, trains, aircraft, trucks, cars and other engineering structures, both locally and overseas. He has also done extensive work in this regard in the bio-mechanical and agricultural fields. Designed several types of strain gauge transducers. Also designed specific grid configuration strain gauges to be manufactured by overseas concerns. Was also instrumental in the design of strain gauge amplifiers.
